Abstract
The problem of resurfacing the weight bearing heel of the foot have been described by Maissels (1967), Curtin (1977) and McGouther (1978) who concluded that no form of distant sole replacement was satisfactory and reported that the most patients avoided weight bearing on a resurfacing area.
The flap coverage should be well padded but not bulky. in addition, when resurfacing sizable defects of the weight bearing plantar surface, a flap affording protective sensation is desirable.
Many methods have been reported for reconstructing a skin defect of the posterior heel and plantar heel, that is, ways of skin graft, innervated skin graft, local skin flap, neurovascular skin island flap, muscle flap, myocuraiieous flap and neurovascular free flap.
In repair of a defect of the posterior heel, sensory flap is desirable and the lateral calcaneal flap is the most suitable for this purpose and in repair of a defect of the plantar heel, the midplantar fasciocutaneous island flap is relatively simple and reliable for this purpose.
Here we present 10 cases of defects of plantar and posterior heel treated by lateral clacaneal flap and midplantar fasciocutaneous flap.
